April 18 is the date that was established with the aim of raising awareness in society about the right of people to universal access to care. #3. Right to information. Every individual has the right to access all types of information about their health status, health services and how to use them, as well as everything that scientific research and technological innovation can provide.
Every patient has the right to direct access to his or her clinical history and medical reports in order to ask about their content and to obtain correction of any errors they may contain, and this access must be guaranteed by health services. Likewise, citizens have the right to know about advances in scientific research and technological innovations, provided that this information meets the criteria of accuracy, reliability and transparency.
#4. Right to consent. Every individual has the right to access all information that may enable him or her to actively participate in decisions concerning his or her health; this information is a prerequisite for any procedure and treatment, including participation in scientific research.
#6. Right to privacy and confidentiality. Every individual has the right to confidentiality regarding personal information, including information about his or her health status and potential diagnosis or therapeutic procedures, as well as to the protection of his or her privacy during diagnostic examinations, specialist visits, and medical or surgical treatments in general.
Therefore, information relating to a person's health status is considered private, personal and sensitive, and must be protected with appropriate means.
Under the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), health data, genetic data and biometric data are considered “particularly protected data”.
