In the month of World Asthma Day, the Colombian Working Group on Asthma promotes the campaign #WithAsthmaUnderControlLet's debunk the myths about asthma.
The Colombian Working Group on Asthma is a multidisciplinary group, made up of scientific organizations, patients and other actors in the health system, which was created to join forces so that patients are diagnosed on time, educated and treated in a comprehensive manner. In this sense, throughout the month, various online activities are being carried out with patients and health professionals to address and re-educate them on myths regarding health care, recognition and control of asthma.
Asthma is a respiratory disease that is becoming more and more common. There are a lot of untrue beliefs surrounding this condition. Dr. Diana Rey, a physician and surgeon, specialist in internal medicine and pulmonology, explains the general characteristics of asthma and exposes the most common myths that are clarified in this 2-minute video:
“It is important to highlight the importance of consulting a doctor and following the treatment. Good asthma control has allowed many people to lead a life without limitations.”
As he says Dr. Edison Morales “recognizing asthma involves a correct diagnosis of the disease,” the video explains what symptoms may occur and what diagnostic methods may be necessary.
Finally, this campaign refers to the use of new technologies and resources in Digital Health to offer better monitoring and control of asthma. Likewise, the possibility of teleworking in times of pandemic has become a very important option for these patients, to continue with their activities without exposing themselves and reduce the possibility of risk of contagion.
TESTIMONY
Valeria Gómez: has asthma and is a high-performance athlete.
One of the biggest myths is that people with asthma cannot play sports.
In this video, Valeria Gomez, a high-performance athlete, reminds us that fulfilling our dreams requires will and discipline. His adherence to treatment has been fundamental in these results, which is why today we want to highlight the importance of following medical recommendations and treatment to have a better quality of life.
