Childhood asthma is one of the main causes of school absenteeism, since it is a very common chronic respiratory disease in children.
Coinciding with the start of the school year, the sports centre at the Pintor Rosales school in Madrid will host a fun day on 7 October from 18 to 20 pm, in which, through educational games and workshops, information will be provided to parents and children on the management of asthma, a pathology with a high incidence in the child population. To participate, you must register through the website http://mejorandoelasmainfantil.com/.

This initiative is part of the campaign “Healthy Cities, for the improvement of childhood asthma”, launched by the Lovexair Foundation and the Roger Torné Foundation with the aim of promoting good respiratory health habits, as well as the correct diagnosis and control of asthma in children. Asthma is the most common chronic disease in children, the one that causes the most hospitalisations and the most days of school lost. In Spain, it affects around 11% of children between 6 and 7 years old, 9% of adolescents between 13 and 14 years old and around 5% of the adult population.
The campaign includes school workshops with educational content -available at http://mejorandoelasmainfantil.com/ -aimed at teachers and schools interested in training students on respiratory health; as well as fun days for families in which games and educational workshops will be offered by doctors and pediatricians who will explain the basic and essential concepts about asthma.

This project also has the support of the Spanish Association of Primary Care Pediatrics (AEPap), the Spanish Society of Clinical Immunology, Allergology and Pediatric Asthma (SEICAP), the Spanish Society of Pediatric Pulmonology (SENP), the Foundation for Health Education (FUNDADEPS), and the collaboration of Madrid SALUD of the Madrid City Council, SERMAS of the Community of Madrid, and the participation of Novartis.
