Many people continue to show symptoms after having suffered from COVID-19. Some of these symptoms are muscle and/or joint pain, fatigue, shortness of breath, cough or chest pain, secretions... We have created a space to care for people with persistent COVID.
When people continue to present these symptoms, up to four weeks after infection, they are considered to have either persistent COVID or Long COVID. It is estimated that of the 3,7 million people who were infected with SARS-COV2 in Spain, 10% suffer from this long-term COVID condition.
It is also observed that this affects both people who suffered from the disease in a severe or mild form.
Also, according to the article published by Eroski ConsumerThe persistence of symptoms impacts the social and work life and daily activities of those affected. This situation is detrimental to the physical health, as well as the psychological and emotional well-being of the patient. Furthermore, these people feel and express that they feel alone, without help or support in their recovery process.
Can physiotherapy help these patients?
The different colleges of physiotherapists in Spain as well as the 'Clinical Guide for the Care of the Persistent Covid Patient/lung covid' Prepared by 47 different scientific societies in Spain and coordinated by the Spanish Society of General and Family Physicians (SEMG), they point out and highlight the role of physiotherapists during the recovery of these patients.
“Due to the symptoms that these patients present (fatigue, muscle pain, feeling of shortness of breath, cough or chest pain), health professionals have agreed to highlight the importance of the professional role of the physiotherapist in the recovery of the after-effects of patients affected by the disease.” Eroski Consumer
At the Lovexair Foundation we have the following: HappyAir Coaches, respiratory physiotherapists who have worked closely with these patients, and can help you improve your respiratory health and well-being.
Specific follow-up in persistent COVID/Long COVID
Since June, the first one has been operating HappyAir Space at the University Polyclinic (Calle de Almansa, 66, Madrid).
This in-person care space was created thanks to the collaboration of the Lovexair Foundation and the CEU San Pablo University of Madrid, offering free assessments for people with persistent Covid, COPD and other respiratory diseases.
These services include different tests to monitor lung health, functional monitoring, and spirometry. Users are managed by Lovexair's team of healthcare professionals, physiotherapists specifically trained in rehabilitation, who also provide support and follow-up, in person and online, to the patient and their family members in order to monitor the personalized therapeutic plan, through the HappyAir platform.
During the visit, the patient receives a comprehensive report with an overview of their health status and the impact of the disease on their quality of life, as well as reliable data to share with their doctor during the face-to-face consultation.
The first visit is free. The days of attention are Wednesdays, from 10:00 a.m. to 14:00 p.m., and you can make an appointment through the website.
